Comes this year to its 562nd edition. In the year 1445 Pietro Barbo, Bishop of Cervia, who was caught in a terrible storm at Adriaticsea, made a vow. Ever since, such vow has always been honoured and this traditional ceremony taking place on Ascension Day is still vivid these days. The Bishop held it in his own heart even when he became Pope under the name of Paul II. That is why he had a fountain built in the gardens of Palazzo Venezia in Rome in honour of the "Sea Wedding". The backdrop and at the same time protagonist of this celebration is the sea. Vintage boats with their highly coloured sails carry civil and religious authorities over the sea which is exhorted to unite all the peoples that live by the sea in a fraternal embrace and to give Cervia and its inhabitants a favourable season. Four days of exhibitions, shows and traditional songs and dances will come to a climax on the day of the ancient ceremony. The traditional gathering of historical boats will take place on 25th and 26th May and will end on 27th with the Ascension Regatta. Distance from Hotel City - Milano Marittima : 3 km
